CAP Vocational Jr. College

Affiliated to the Board of Intermediate Education, Erstwhile Government of Andhra Pradesh, Government of Telangana

Vocational Education provides the students with a pathway to employment through development of specialized knowledge and saleable skills. The instruction gives emphasis mainly to the development of basic skills, technical knowledge and occupational information.

Vocational courses provided through collaborative arrangements with the relevant professional institutions and give particular emphasis to on-the-job training. These valuable methods bridge the gaps between school and employment and give the students an opportunity to earn while learning.

The major objective of each course is to provide the students an opportunity to acquire functional skills and desired work habits that will enable them to be productive members of the community and society.

Vocational education can be at the secondary or post secondary level and can interact with the apprenticeship system. Vocational education focuses on recognition of prior learning and partial academic credit towards tertiary education as credit. However, it is rarely considered in its own form to fall under the traditional definition of higher education.

CAP Vocational Junior College

The CAP Vocational College was initiated in 2005-06 at Shapurnagar for the Teen Channel students who successfully completed Class X through bridge school program and other students from the communities below poverty line. The CAP Vocational Junior College is recognized by the Board of Intermediate education, Government of Andhra Pradesh and offers two years vocational courses beginning from the academic year 2005-06 with the following courses.

  1. AET Automobile engineering and Technician
  2. CSE Computer Science Education
  3. HO Hotel Operations

The college started growing year after year with new branches:-

  • At Patancheru in the year 2007-08 with two Courses:
    1. Computer Science and Engineering
    2. Accounts and Taxation
  • At Kukatpally in the year 2008-09 with two Courses:
    1. Computer Science and Engineering
    2. Accounts and Taxation

On the Job Training

In order to impart job-oriented skills to students, greater emphasis is placed on – On the Job Training. The entire work relating to practicals and on the job training is provided every year in the month of November and December (I & II year) in workshops, organizations and industries. It is directly under the supervision of Master Trainers of the workshops, industries and service establishments.

Adolescents Vocational Education and Training

For adolescents and young people from disadvantaged communities who complete high school and aspire for higher education with specialization in vocational streams, CAP offers intermediate level two years vocational courses certified by the Board of Intermediate, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Based on the labor market scan conducted in the area to identify the potential vocational educational options for the youth the courses being offered in the vocational colleges are:

  1. Computer Science Engineering
  2. Hotel Operations
  3. Automobile Engineering technicians
  4. Accounts & Taxation
  5. Computer Graphics and Animation

CAP is currently running 3 vocational junior colleges in Andhra Pradesh. The curriculum combines a mix of theoretical inputs & practical sessions. In addition to the technical subjects, all the students are provided basic computer skills, Life Skills, Spoken English Skills, Workplace readiness integrated with the course curriculum, sports and co-curricular activities. The interface with the industry is an integral part of the course as these courses are linked to apprenticeship/on-job training in various companies and placements after the completion of the courses. There is a strong emphasis on project work as a part of the regular courses at the college. Many of the projects are sponsored by the industry. On an average a student graduating from CAP Vocational Junior College undertakes around 8 live/ real time job assignments and 2 on- the- Job Trainings with established business houses to gain first hand knowledge and skills. Aside from the theoretical inputs, the students are encouraged to interact with industry through guest lectures, Industry Visits, field visits, on the job training, tours, market surveys, Career Exploration Visits etc.

A total of 952 (55% Female) students accessed the program from three Vocational Junior Colleges in Ranga Reddy & Medak Districts, 486 students are undergoing the training and 466 students had completed training and 45 % of the students accepted full time Placement and continued distance Higher Education and remaining chose to continue regular full time Education with part time Placement. 33% of students are females. 70% of all students are from disadvantaged backgrounds ( BC-40%, SC-22% and ST -8%) and with 83% from families living Below Poverty Line.
